New pressure relieve system on the A440 Wireless Modem

A Goretex Pressure relief vent on all new A440's enhances the units reliability in extreme climates.

With the weather getting hotter every year and Adcon expanding it's business particularly in Mexico, South America and Australia we need to get ready for extreme challenges. We have seen A440 Modems getting as hot as 70°C inside. Temperatures like this require modifications in the equipment to cope with potential dangers.

Therefore we have equipped the latest production run of A440 Wireless Modems with a Goretex pressure relief vent. This item shall prevent water ingress into the A440 after a sudden rainfall event on extremely hot and sunny days. With no battery inside there is more air in the A440 Wireless Modem than in any other Adcon RTU. This air heats up a lot in southern environments. Basically no problem, the unit is specified to work in temperatures of up to 65° Celsius (149°F) for extended periods of time and temporarily in even hotter temperatures.

But in case of sudden rainfall events, rapid cooling of the A440 case builds up a large pressure difference between the inside and the outside of the case. This new Goretex vent shall provide for a fast pressure adaptation and prevent moisture from being sucked into the case.

We have selected the snap-in version of this vent, since the threaded units should be mounted with a torque wrench only to avoid damage to the threads and seals. Snap-in's in contrast are easier to handle, but just as safe. Since there are no user serviceable or exchangeable parts inside, we strongly recommend NOT to tamper with this device and not to take it apart!

For owners of an A440 Wireless Modem without this Gore Vent there is no need to worry. The A440 has proven to be a very robust device with hardly any dropouts. This modification is part of our drive to continuously improve our products and make them suitable for even the most extreme of conditions.
